NEWBRAIN Project – Ancona Action Plan

TRT was commissioned by the Central Adriatic Ports Authority, in the framework of the NEWBRAIN project, to carry out the Ancona Action Plan.

Firstly, the analysis was focused on the role of the Port of Ancona in relation to the development and strengthening of the node in the strategic context of the Adriatic-Ionian Macro Region (EUSAIR), the European transport policy and the TEN-T network, in order to facilitate national and international connections. Secondly, another objective of the project was to enhance integrated intermodal transport and improve the connections between the main logistics nodes of the Adriatic Ionian area, strengthening the transnational coordination between key operators in the field of logistics and intermodality and increasing their investment capacity in the sector.

The Action Plan follows a top-down approach, presenting firstly the main characteristics of the port and underlining its role in the local and European networks. Then, the Action Plan presents the results of the analysis related to the bottlenecks. The above information led to the detailed presentation of the recommended future projects, necessary and strategic for the future operation of the port as competitive core node. EU financial opportunities, supporting the implementation of the projects, were also identified.

Finally, the Action Plan concludes with the contribution of these projects in respect to the TEN-T networks and how the priority projects of the port are in line with the priorities of EUSAIR Strategy.
